# Sustainability and ethical sourcing at Handcraft

> Handcraft's approach to sustainability: local Danish craft, ethical materials, made-to-order production, and objects built to last.

Sustainability at Handcraft is not a marketing claim — it is built into the model. Objects made by hand, made well, and made to order do not accumulate in warehouses, do not get discarded unsold, and do not need to be replaced after two seasons. That is a more durable form of sustainability than any certification.

## Made in Denmark

All custom jewelry pieces on Handcraft are made by Danish goldsmiths. Every maker on the platform is an independent Danish artisan with a real studio practice.

Working with local craftspeople means:

* **Shorter transport routes** — production happens close to the customer, not on the other side of the world
* **Direct oversight of production** — your piece is made by one goldsmith, from start to finish, not assembled across multiple facilities
* **Support for independent craftspeople** — your order goes directly to a maker, not a manufacturer; it sustains a studio practice and a centuries-old tradition

## Ethical materials

## Sustainability by design

The structure of how Handcraft works is itself a sustainability practice.

Made-to-order production means no piece is made until someone has asked for it. There is no inventory to clear, no overproduction to manage, and no waste from unsold stock. AI-guided designs allow goldsmiths to work with precision — the right amount of material, in the right configuration, from the start.

The objects on Handcraft are made to last. A well-made ceramic bowl does not become obsolete. A well-made gold ring does not go out of style. The opposite of fast fashion is not slow fashion — it is objects worth keeping.

> "Things made by hand and made well do not need to be replaced. That is sustainability in the most practical sense."

## Our commitments

**Local craft** — Handcraft partners exclusively with Danish goldsmiths and artisans. Every maker is independent, every piece is made in Denmark.

**Ethical sourcing** — All materials are responsibly sourced and fully traceable. Lab diamonds from Belgium, conflict-free natural stones, and gold and silver from verified European suppliers.

**Minimal waste** — Made-to-order production and precise AI-guided designs mean material is used where it is needed, not stockpiled or discarded.
